A new program this year is the Graduating Class Gift. Graduating students are asked to make a gift of $20.09 towards a bench comemorating the class of '09. The photo is the of the goal tracker outside of the cafe.

Even though Marymount does not have the day off Happy Cezar Chavez Day! This is a text to post a public photo from flickr. Hopefully i set it up right. The photo title is Think Different, a mural from the Democratic National Convention held in LA in 2000.

Uploading images

Flickr, another site I've been wanting to learn about but hadn't dived in yet. As we're thinking about using these social networking tools professionally legal questions about copyright come up. Certain sites like facebook or snapfish own your images when you upload them to the sites (much to the ire of users in facebooks case). Would a photographer we contracted to take photos at reception consider it copyright infringement if we posted the photos to a Marymount PV Facebook page? On a cursory glance at the flickr and picasa terms of use it seems like you do keep the rights to the images you upload. Of course focusing on topics like these seems to defeat the purpose of a sharing site. My millenial little sister has stoped adding photos to her facebook until they change their policy back which shows you that all of us are learning to maneuver social networking. More flickr play to come.

Better Late than Never

Although I am joining this conversation late, I am happy to be partaking in MCPV Learning 2.0. Being of the latter end of Gen Xers, I am comfortable using email and other web technologies to communicate with friends, colleagues and community members. But there is so much new and expanding technology out there and we are all still trying to learn how to constructively incorporate these into our daily lives.

A perfect example of this for me is RSS subscriptions. I knew what they were but didn't really know where to get started until I took a c-hour class on RSS and Blogs by our own Mary McMillan. Now I have google reader set up on my google home page and can't imagine life without it. (note: I am a google devote despite the fact they refused to give me a job once).
